Strengthening Government-NGO-UN Partnership in the implementing & reporting process of CEDAW (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka)

As part of a global programme, UNIFEM is supporting Governments and NGOs in the learning process geared towards the reporting on and implementing the Women’s Convention. This has involved building capacities of NGOs/activist formations in 5 countries to carry out situational analysis of their respective countries. Interface has been promoted between these NGO formations and the Government in the reporting and implementing stages (Nepal, India & Maldives) by using different articles of the Convention. Support has been extended to the process of Shadow Report preparation and NGO participation in the CEDAW hearings. Country specific information on the gender dimensions of HIV/AIDS in Maldives was generated through a Report on “Women, Vulnerabilities and Rights: Situational Analysis of HIV/AIDS in the Maldives”, assisting Maldives’ reporting to the CEDAW Committee
