Leveraging political and financial support for women from a wide range of stakeholders:
Within the context of the Global Programme on HIV/AIDS, Gender and Human Rights, UNIFEM South Asia is working to increase the knowledge base of UNIFEM and its partners to respond effectively to concerns of women affected by HIV/AIDS.
The programme goal is to contribute to the stemming of HIV/AIDS by addressing vulnerabilities that put women at risk, as well as addressing gender inequalities in the context of care, treatment and support. Activities include enhancing capacities, skill building on human rights issues, facilitation of gender sensitive materials for advocacy, piloting community-based studies and profiles on the intersection issues of Gender, HIV/AIDS and Human Rights and forging effective partnerships among a wide range of stakeholders. As a member of the UNAIDS "Technical Resource Team” in India, UNIFEM works on engendering the National Programme, the joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS and facilitating foras and networks of positive women. UNIFEM is working towards incorporating HIV/AIDS concerns in its larger efforts towards strengthening women's economic capacity, engendering governance, and eliminating all forms of violence against women.
