During the project activity phase in India  from 2003-2006, UNIFEM provided thematic and technical support on gender issues in CHARCA at various levels.These thematic interventions were meant to enhance knowledge base and capabilities in the programme at the national, state and district levels (Deleted few words) to address Gender based vulnerabilities to HIV. The project was implemented through wide variety of outreach strategies in six districts. Concrete outputs included deepening of knowledge base, developing of training IEC and advocacy tools, besides enlarging cadre of trained/ sensitized human resources at the local level on issues related to gender and mental health, understanding, masculinities, sexuality, gender based violence, legal and human rights and positive women.
