8th – 10th October, 2009, Paro, Bhutan: The National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC) in The Royal Kingdom of Bhutan (RGoB) is organizing a three-day National Consultation on Human Trafficking and Cross Border Cooperation with UNIFEM support.

The Consultation seeks to:

  • Promote a better understanding of the situation of trafficking;Come up with strategic approaches to deal with human trafficking; and

  • Strategize Cross Border Collaboration

In the short-term, the Consultation will focus on developing a better appreciation of Human Trafficking and HIV/AIDS particularly from a trans-border perspective. It will, at the same time define the framework within which agencies, within and across the border could collaborate. This consultation is the first of its kind in Bhutan and presents an excellent opportunity for all concerned institutions and organizations to come together on one platform. It would also assist in strengthening partnership and collaboration within the international border areas; as well as in building a strong counterpart in combating trans-border human trafficking & HIV.

In the long–term, this Consultation Workshop will look at a road map for future collaboration, while identifying the challenges and strategies on trafficking and HIV in neighbouring countries
